The Medieval city of Bengal (1450-1565 AD). It is a ruined city on the Indo-Bangladesh border situated between the river Ganges and Mahananda in Shibgonj Upajila, Chapai Nawabganj district, Rajshahi. The medieval capital of Bengal Sultanate, the geographical boundaries of pre- medieval Gaur remain unclear, it was once the capital of the Bengal region and is known as the best place to find the historical treasures of Bengal. Bengali Nobel prize winner in Literature Rabindranath Tagore in his book Gaur Kotha (Story of Gaur) says, “At one time the whole Gaur was known as the land of Gaur or Gauradesh.
Even a few days the go, the Bengali language was known then as the Gaudiya language – even now in many parts of India, Bengalis are known as Gaudiya. So, if anyone tries to write our history, must start with Gaur.” Gaur, also known as Gaur, Lakshmanavati, Lakhnauti and Jannatabad. Gauda served as the seat of many powerful dynasties over time – the Buddhist Pala kings from the 8th centuand ry, the Hindu Sen kings from the 12th century, finally fell into their hands. Sultanate of Delhi in 1204. It flourished during the Bengal Sultanate through prominent dynasties including Ilyas Shahi, Abyssinian, and Husain Shahi kings. Gaur fell into ruin in the middle of the 16th century for various reasons, most notably the invasion of Bengal by Sher Shah Suri in 1539 AD.
Henry Creighton, a native of Scotland, was employed as a laborer in a blue factory near Maldar in 786 when he came across the ruins of Gaur. He made several trips to this place from 1786 to his death in 1807, with very fine drawings and notes on the ruins. These were posthumously compiled and published in 1817. The Sultans built a fort, many mosques, a palace, canals, bri, edges, and robesideides of the river. Among all these ruins, we see the Darsbari Mosque of the Sultanate period, then Chota Sona Masjid (Little Golden Mosque).
The mosque is one of the best – Sultana Memorials protected by the Department of Archeology and Museums of the Government of Bangladesh. Khania Dighi Mosq it is also known locally as Chamchika Mosque and Rajbibi Mosque. The mosque is believed to have been built by Rajbibi in 1460 AD. Then another archeological place is Dhania Chalk Mosque.
The Mughal Mosque is part of the Tahkhana Complex, which consists of a large residential enclave, the tomb of a saint, Shah Niyamtullah Wali, and some ruined service quarters. The complex is located on the west bank of a large tank, about half a kilometer northwest of the small Sona Mosque. The building is not carved, but it is traditionally confirmed that the entire Tahkhana complex was built by Subahdar Shah Shuja (1639-1660 AD) whose court was in India Raajmahal, in honor of the Saint Shah Niyamtullah Wali. Niyamtullah Wali was buried at the Mughal tomb structures in Bangladesh. Recently, the entire area of Tahkhana complex and the mosque have been extensively renovated by the Bangladesh Department of Archeology. The current site of the ruins must be included in your list of archeological sites while you think to visit in Bangladesh.
